Curry Leaf Cafe: a journey through six states of India
Curry Leaf Cafe
The brief
We were asked to create a wall mural for Brighton-based craft beer and Indian street food restaurant, Curry Leaf Cafe. The wall mural was to be a visual representation of the six states of India around which Curry Leaf Cafe’s food is centred.
What we delivered
We researched the six states of India (Goa, Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh), to identify the key attributes of each. We then created a mandala ‘leaf’ for each state, to link with the Curry Leaf Cafe logo. Each leaf stands on its own, but fits together with the other five leaves to make up the full mandala logo.
The illustration style we applied is designed to be fun and informal, in keeping with Curry Leaf Cafe’s brand personality.
This was an opportunity to inject some secondary colours into Curry Leaf Cafe’s Ship Street, Brighton, restaurant, to complement the primary colour palette of green and orange.
Our hope is that the mural will provide a fun talking point – as well as an educational piece – for the brand amongst customers, enabling them to understand Curry Leaf Cafe on a deeper level.
We worked with Lime Signs to use conformable satin laminated vinyl to produce an effect as close to paint as possible.
What the client said
“Sherlock took our existing brand, sensitively helping us to future-proof it ahead of a planned push into new sales channels. In tandem with this exercise, they created some wonderful new illustrations which have quickly become key brand assets. These have given us a whole new platform to connect with our customers, staff and suppliers. In summary, they’re a highly skilled team of creatives with a strong commercial bent.” Euan Sey, Founder and Commercial Director
