Helping Tesco in India
Tesco
The client
We have had a successful working relationship with Tesco since our studio was founded, working with the retailer on many aspects of their stores both internal and external – and brand. Having started working for Tesco UK (including Tesco Bank), we have subsequently become their trusted partner in Malaysia and Central & Eastern Europe.
The brief
We were asked by Tesco and its retail partner in India, Tata, to assist in the design of in-store communications materials and signage for their Star supermarket joint venture in India. Alongside this, we created a set of style guidelines to ensure consistency of design for the Star Bazaar family of graphics in future.
What we delivered
Supermarkets are a relatively new phenomenon in India – something we took account of in our designs. For example, we couldn’t rely on standard communications devices.
Meanwhile, the nature of Indian consumer habits required a particular emphasis on freshness and raw and staple ingredients, something which we carried through to our store communications family.
We also ensured comms were particularly visual due to varying levels of literacy in India.
What the client says
“I have worked with Rob, Tony and the Sherlock team for the last 3 years and find them one of the most passionate and thoughtful design agencies in the market. They really understand the retail sector (and specifically supermarket retailing). It’s really evident when you work with the team they have their fingers on the pulse for latest trends in the market and really help shape each concept being developed with care and consideration to our expectations.”
