A travel guide to Eastbourne (by kids)

The brief

Little Green Pig (LGP) asked us to design a travel guide to Eastbourne, written by children, for children. We were tasked with creating a bright, colourful and fun guide that would capture the attention of its target audience of children and parents.

The brief was an exercise in ensuring the large volume of copy was balanced out throughout the guide with appropriately placed illustrations, honing in on the funniest, most enlightening, and informative copy from the young writers.

What we delivered

We applied the distinctive illustrative style that we used for Little Green Pig’s Brighton travel guide to bring the content to life. It draws on a nostalgic seaside postcard colour palette. We borrowed this post-war style of block-colour litho printing but applied it in a more relaxed visual style, to reflect a more modern seaside town.

The illustrations’ simple and expressive shapes reflect the bold and honest critique of the young writers’ vision of their home town of Eastbourne.

What the client said

“We were thrilled to with Sherlock again after they did such a gorgeous job on our multi-artist comic book last year. This project presented a new challenge as we asked for it to be based on a previous publication but substantially different in terms of artwork choices. As ever, Sherlock delivered their work perfectly to brief and with creativity and efficiency. The final product pops with life and colour- inviting readers in and keeping them absorbed through every page. It beautifully showcases the words of our young writers and they will be extremely proud to receive their copies.” Emily Hogan, Deputy Director
